We have all seen first-hand the impact Covid19 has had on so many areas of our lives, including sports activities. A number of people have asked us about our annual Shankill FC Champions league event, and if it will take place this year.
Our committee have reviewed the situation, taking on board the latest information from Govt. and health experts and believe the best, and most responsible, course of action is to cancel the event for this year.
We realize this will be a great disappointment for many kids and parents in Shankill and neighbouring areas, as our Champions league event is one of the most anticipated and well-liked events of the summer and gets huge amounts of positive feedback every year.
Our primary decision criteria included
It is a certainty that Social distancing will still be in play in July and it would be very difficult for our club to manage players and spectators in such a large gathering repeatedly over the 2 week period.
Gaining approval for our event from Gardai, approval from DLR council etc., could take quite some time to confirm as the Government’s roadmap for modifying restrictions could change or slip at any time.
Clearly this was a very difficult decision, and will be a big disappointment for many kids and parents but we believe it is the most responsible one for our club to take. As regards our other one-day annual Shankill FC events, we will hold on any decision for now as we may be able to fit them in later in the year.
We will advise more on those as the whole Covid19 picture becomes more clear. Fingers crossed we will get some good news from Govt and health bodies in the near future so that the kids will be able to get back out playing soccer soon.
Until then we send all our members and neighbours our very best wishes and hope all of you will keep safe and well.
Kind regards
Dave Mulcahy
